Perfectly timed for the beginning of summer hinterland records, the
new imprint of producer/songwriter Tobias Meggle, has come out with
a remix maxi of sandboy’s "viver". It follows the
enthusiastically received debut ep "motion capture".
The A side contains a version by butti 49. The first part distills
the main
compositional ideas from the song material and brings them into focus.
The original groove is imparted with a new spin, interlacing keys
and guitar with the sparkling transparency of a spectrally reduced
drum track complemented by an agile and freeminded bass. The momentum
of this development is being carried over into the second part of
the mix, which embodies a satisfying "in the pocket" jam
session feel.
Volcov’s remix of "viver" on side B puts the song
into the club context
employing a steady yet organic and complex dance beat, sort of a "house
not house" take on the original version with a sub bass generating
a powerful undertow throughout the track. This effect amalgamates
with the generous open spaces interspersed among the vocal lines and
makes it possible to fully savour the elegant texture of the voice.
reviews
"Tobias Meggle, ex-member
Definitives
hitpotential!" (Dirk Rumpff / OFFtrack / season)
