lyrics
With anticipation running high for this second volume of remixes of
the delightful Wanderlust album released with success in 2004, Sandboy’s
fanbase will not be disappointed by this long awaited spring wax delivery.
After having received major reviews in Straight No Chaser and DJ Magazine,
generated massive respect from cognoscienti such as Jimpster, Jazzanova
or Alan Brown and conquered the hearts of Japanese record collectors,
Sandboy will probably trigger off another range of applause with this
fresh vinyl teaser out of the forthcoming cd album "echoes" due
late summer.
After some challenging aural & visual dj experiences
across Europe & Russia
with the precious help of Belgian VJ SUB-, Tobias Meggle decided to
get back to his Bavarian soundlab to concentrate on new compositions
recorded this
winter with the haunting vocals of Sonar Kollektiv’s mermaid
Clara Hill and Randolph Matthews from Abstract Blue fame. He also took
the time to
give a new life to his classic "Written In The Leaves" and
rework some Gerd (feat. Vanessa Freeman) & Plastyc Buddah material
for Belgian imprint Lea. The result of these studio experiments will
be displayed in full length
on his forthcoming concept album conceived as a double angle sound
journey in the poetic world of Sandboy by the artist himself but also
from the perspective
of some like-minded funkateers. Indeed besides his own new tracks and
his own remixes for fellow producers, the cd will feature tasty reworkings
courtesy of high profile remixers such as Stavanger’s Butti 49
(hifi terapi, Guidance, Exceptional), Verona’s Volcov (Archive,
Neroli, Compost), Rotterdam’s Gerd (4Lux, Freerange, LEA) and
London’s Break
Reform (Abstract Blue) all previously released on Hinterland vinyl
only.
To complete this inspiring collection, 4 new remixes will be
included on "echoes" now
released as this limited 4 tracker vinyl sampler. Proving once again
his singular artistic vision, Tobias has given entire freedom to young
cats of the scene like Season, Leroy Schlimm and Smiles Ahead who all
choosed spontaneously to explore their favourite Wanderlust moments.
A1 lua nua Smiles Ahead 3 Tees Remix
This remix was genuinely the birth of the new production duo of Metronomic
Family headhoncho and freestyle pioneer dj Philarmonix and French based
musician and producer David Alexander that decided to step in the studio
to symbolize their longtime friendship and musical complicity. After several
listenings, Sandboy himself had difficulties to believe that this remix
was truly their first studio experience together the track uniting so perfectly
the tight arrangements and musicianship of David with the hip hop breaks
sensibility of Phil. With a deep respect for the original composition
and the voice of Nice Ferreira, this bumpy bass rework will make you groove
all summer. Already tested & approved by Outlines, Jimpster, Jmix,
Mad Mats, Simon Harisson and David Borsu among others... www.metronomic-family.com
A2 les éclairs Leroy Schlimm Remix
31 years old upcoming German producer Leo Hopfinger known as the co-founder
of the Rawheit collective delivers a stunning melancholic version with
self played guitar lines that contrasts cleverly with the lyrics of Marianne
Kirch, the distorted synths and the syncopated raw drum programming.
A very powerful piece of music that brings the Jazzanova-esque original production
in darker and unknown territories. Think about Suzanne Vega stuck in
an elevator with Telefon Tel Aviv... www.leroyschlimm.de
B1 lua nua Leroy Schlimm Remix
Based on an hybrid of bossa patterns and
afro guitar licks that create a driving hypnotic climax scattered with
original vocal elements, Leroy’s mix contains a subtle building-up
full of distorted echoes that will set freestyle dancefloors on fire.
B2 pomegranate Season Remix
Known for his respected Offtrack weekly radioshow, Dirk Rumpff has
translated in a studio experience his impeccable taste and musical
sensibility with the help of Salvador Group’s members under the
Season moniker. He was also the one that introduced judiciously the angel
grace of Break Reform’s Nanar Vorperian to Sandboy and led to the recording
of the original composition. It was then a logical step for Season, after
a few appearances on Compost and Ritmo and a first remix for Gerd’s
4Lux, to explore in their own way this beautiful love poem. The result is a
technological dub odyssey of 6 minutes 30 creating a slo-mo hypnotic
groover with a sober and classy use of Nanar’s voice.

"Steadfast and solid,
another utterly dependable selection of mixes from one of the true
underground sonic identifications that is Hinterland records. All
mixes fit like a Recaro ergonomic bucketseat in a F14 Tomcat. Electronic
organic, organic electronic, its all the same, its all music, and
it's all good. Nice to see the up and coming production crews paying
respect to the original compositions and songs. Nothing worse then
nucrews adding twenty tablespoons of sugar to a single cup of your
favourite musical beverage. Yeap, remixed with love and a loyality
to the sound of Sandboy and Hinterland records and totally without
taking the glory themselves. Remember guys "you are only the
remixer" ;) Respect to Season, Smiles Ahead and Leroy Schlimm
for remembering this and paying homage and respectful deference to
the art of remixing. A great all round selection of mixes for some
great all round songs, excellent 12". Personal rating:
9/10"
(Alan Brown, Cukipapa, Soul Seduction)
"Excellent set of remixes and hopefully you've noticed it high
in my chart, on this weeks show and on my next nu-world mix which
will
be online later this week. Thanks again and keep the excellent music
coming"
(Simon Harrison, basic soul)
"what a great letter/packaging. As for the reaction
yeah, number one is my fave. Also classy Season rmx too. Well done."
(volcov,
neroli)
"Both teasing fans in anticipation of his forthcoming
album echoes and giving fans of Wanderlust new mixes to drool over,
Sandboy
is
back with another remix EP full of solid mixes. Perhaps one of the
most crisp production sets I’ve ever heard, these remixes are
SO clean that it’s amazing they retain the soul of the originals.
The packaging on this promo CD alone is a major statement of the
level of quality that hinterland is all about. I’d say the
thing that separates these remixes from the various remix EPs out
there is the sheer fact that every track sounds as if it was / could
be played by a live band. A very rare trait in a lot of so-called
'nu-jazz' these
days. The only mix that didn’t really blow me away was the
Season remix of 'Pomegranate' and that’s no knock at Season.
The original piece is just so beautiful on it’s own that I
don’t even think I’d have the guts to touch it as a remixer."
(Adam
Kurzawa, Giant Step)
"Love the nu material… electro, brazilian broken
beat that really rolls along ('lua nua')… must win design
award for best CD promotion presentation too, beautiful packaging… will
showcase them on the programme…"
(Trevor Parkee, Departure
Lounge)
"One of the best tracks (smiles ahead rmx) I've been
sent in a long time, wonderful."
Jmix (Citrona, Lime Sorbet & International
Freeridin Radioshows)
"…
really like the 'Smiles Ahead Threes Tees Mix' …he got that
magic touch! Good luck with this one!"
(Mad Mats / Raw Fusion
/ Jugglin’ Records)
"Well, I’ve been rockin’ the shit out of Lua Nua (HOT
HOT HOT) track… I wish I had it on vinyl… we prefer vinyl, cause I play out
at various NYC clubs… but CD is good for the radio show! Thanks
for the beautiful envelope, CD, etc. … you’re very
good at design and presentation… A++" (Ernesto Vigo)
"Very groovy remix! I was expecting the bass dropped earlier
but this is the surprising Smiles Ahead effect… Once it is
coming, it never stops! Very promising…"
(Ali Tillett
/ Warm Nights & Agency)
"'Lua Nua' - (Smiles ahead remix) is in my top 10."
(Paul
Gamblin)
"Impressive! The remix (smiles ahead rmx) is kicking
the original version… More groovy, less keys, a deep bassline and a solid
drum programming! Bien joué!"
(Irfane / Outlines, Sonar
Kollektiv)
"I like it a lot. esp. the leroy schlimm rmxsm (both)
they are my favorites… i
will surly play it on my radio shows."
(Samy Birnbach / DJ Morpheus)
"Great!!! I like all the mixes, pushed me in a good
mood. Great package !!! One track will be in line as track of the
month (april). 'les
eclairs' (leroy schlimm remix) seems that came out from a teaser
ep of the 'secret love' compilation of sonar kollektiv… 'pomegranate'
(season remix) is waiting to played back 2 back from domu mix of
break reform’s 'waiting', the warmest remix of 2005 until now/u can’t
hear it u just can feel it!!! 'lua nua' (smiles ahead three tees
remix) is an uplifting emotional broken beat attack, it rocks … 'lua
nua' (leroy schlimm remix) is an electro afro folk surpice, words
are not enough!!! (DJ Nova / Rodon FM95)
"Hinterland delivers a varied package of reworks on
Sandboy’s original material and never disappoints. Some of the names
may not be familiar
to common people but that is for me even a bigger argument to play
it which I’ll do on my 'Cooltronica' radio show. I particularly like
the ambients of this EP. Looking forward to the next one." Rating:
8/10, Favourite track: Season’s remix"
(Rui Torrinha, Groovement /
R.U.M. [97.5 FM])
"I DEFINITELY LOVE IT, especially A1 'Lua Nua' remixed
by Smiles Ahead and 'les éclairs' by Leroy Schlimm.
I will chart these."
(DJ Duke)
"Thanks for the cd, 1 - leroy schlimm 'not that much
into the singing, but definitely into the guitar playing… love this kind of post-rock
atmosphere… brilliant guitarist !!"
(bruno / patchworks)
"First of all, love the ingenious packaging… Nice… The
music then, really good, use it most of the time in my sets at the
moment…"
(Manu Boubli, Mind / Comet)
"Great remixes of all 3 tracks. The Meggle camp excells
once again… As
normall.. I’ve had a lot of use from it & often play 3
of the 4 tracks when i’m dj’ing.. Pomegranate is a great tune to
play early
on in a set. Just watch everybodys heads nod… . It just gets
people in the right mood…Also…The vocals!!!!!! It just
makes you wanna listen to it, Real hard. I guess that’s what you
ultimately want from making your music. If i’ve had enough of watching
peoples heads nodding…… I play either of the Lua Nua
tracks… That normally gets um up !!"
(Gary Johnson)
"This
bunch of remixes has a really high standard. All of them sound like
if they had been produced by long time career famous artists!!! so
its a quite nice surprise to find out people like Philarmonix and
David Alexander showing such a great talent!!! I have liked all the
very professional production skills shown in here and the warm atmospheres
created. As previously mentioned, my favourite cut is Lua Nua -Leroy
Schlimm rmx- due to that powerful drum pattern and uplifting tempo.
Season’s remix of Pomegranate is also a very remarkable one,
and I could easily drop it in my radio shows or at a warm up slot
in a club session. The other two tracks do not quite fit into the
sounds I tend to play as they are a bit too electronic for my taste.
In my personal opinion, vocals are not impressive either and do not
stand out from hundreds of similar tracks around… Not for me,
sorry. I will try to keep supporting this release from my show!!!
keep tuned!!"
(Javi / Club Expansions)
"I am really enjoying it. Lua Lua especially is the
one for me. Sweet rhodes, sweet vocals and rough beats - what else
do you need?! Props
to Phil!"
(Ennio Styles)
(Ralf Gum / GOGO Music)
"Danke fuer noch eine portion SANDBOY! Wird gespielt
und supported @ B92, wie immer. 'Lua Nua' Smiles Ahead Three
Tees Mix ist mein Favorit."
(Nebojsa / Jazzmate)
Hinterland an, doch Mastermind Tobias Meggle lies simultan weitere
Seelenverwandte
an seinem Erstling schrauben.
Obendrein kommt Leroy
1A-Homelistening."
(mpq / De:Bug / Groove / Level 47)
werde."
(Makossa / FM4)
"Finde alle Remixe sehr gelungen."
