All top quality stuff, the Osunlade Dub is absolutely amazing, a real killer! Pure deepness and totally hypnotic... it freaked everyone out. Definitely right up my street and will get plenty of spins out of this one.
(Jamie Odell/Jimpster/Freerange Records)

Sandboy And Nanar - Night Song (Yoruba Soul Dub) - Hinterland Records
This is an amazing new Dub from Osunlade on Germany’s Hinterland Records. The Yoruba man does what he does best, snipping up the vocals into a neat hook and laying over the top of the warmest chords and finest house beats. The result is a ridiculously hypnotic and mesmerizing track that represents what deep house is all about right now. Serious quality.
(DJ Mag)

...it’s a real beauty! (Dom Servini/Wah Wah 45s/Straight No Chaser)

Sandboy and Nanar’s "Night Song" is just wonderful, check the
J.J Webster Remix for pure deepness. 10/10
(Paul Gamblin/Heavy Mannas, Black&Blue)

A beautiful EP, another gorgeous slice of music, love it,
can’t wait to hear the album.
(Alan Brown/Soulseduction)

Lovely! great sounds... beautiful vocals.
(Menno Jager/Sound of Swound)

Love the J.J. Webster Remix, it’s an ADD!!! Added it to the playlist this morning.
(Tom Webb/Chillout 2 New York)

I LOVE IT!!! I can't wait to her the full length.
(The Smooth Groovez)

... fantastic music. I do love all mixes but Osunlade did an amazin remix on it. For sure i’ll play in my radio show and chart as well.
(DJ Edground/Brazil)

The new sandboy&nanar-"night song" ep is excellent, really like it a lot esp. the j.j webster rmx and the yoruba soul dub one... played them both on my weekly radio show.
(DJ Morpheus/Brussels)

Regarding your new release, the beautiful voice of Nanar has remind me Summer is here as it communicates so much positive energy. So its funny the e.p. is actually called "Night song" because I personally see it as a very sunny release.
Hooking up with Mr. Osunlade is another great choice. The legendary producer seems to have moved on from his well known ultra organic percussive driven sounds and jumped into the more clubby rhythms. His two remixes are my favourite cuts on the e.p. I am really feeling those positive and danceable cuts and looking forward to testing them out at the club. Fresh and tight as usual!
(Javi/Club Expansions)

When the new Hinterland CD arrived, my excpectations have been high, but (of course once again) have not been dissappointed. Great musicianship as ever from Sandboy. All versions of "Night Songs" are of high musical quality. The one for my sets is the Yoruba Soul Mix. Deep house as I love it!
(Ralf Gum/GOGO Music)

Really enjoyed the Yoruba vocals mix!
(Enrico Crivellaro/Volcov/Neroli)

It’s always a great day when I discover one of those carefully packaged Hinterland promo’s in the mailbox, as the label hasn’t let me down once. It’s good music, period. It’s no different this time with the Night Song EP.
After collaborating on Sandboy’s Wanderlust album, Nanar Vorperian of Break Reform fame decided to do a whole album with Tobias Meggle. And thus Sandboy And Nanar was born. The album will likely drop late 2007, but here’s the first single. Night Song is trademark Sandboy song - African balaphone percussion, soothing horn arrangements, gentle keyboard melodies and a beautiful voice. It sounds great on this EP but will no doubt sound even better in an album context.
The Osunlade remix on the other hand is 200% single material. In my opinon one of his best renditions, matching the level of his Put It On remix for Atjazz. It really is a kick ass house groover aiming straight for your feet. How he transforms the original is amazing. And who did that wonderful guitar solo!?
There’s two other mixes: first the Osunlade dub which sounds pretty different, but a bit monotonous so I prefer the vocal mix. And secondly a remix by Break Reform’s J.J. Webster, taking a very musical hiphop approach. Not a bad track, but it’s overshadowed by the allmighty Osunlade.
I like!
(by Lensco for beyondjazz.net)

(Dirk Rumpff, OFFtrack radio)

Night Song ist die Granate!!!
(Martin Kratzenstein/chinchin records)

(Jan Siegmund/Department Deluxe)

(Christian Kessler/Poets Club Records)

go to top   sandboy - "echoes"
"The lovely sandboy album "echoes" is excellent indeed, …beauty and originality!"
(Samy/Morpheus)

"A very acomplished collection of very strong tunes."
(Javi/Expansions/Soundclash)

"Wow, amazin’. Congratulations for you work."
(Edground/Grooveland)

"… real nice package!"
(Volcov/Neroli Production/Archive)

"Sounding good… my favourite is definitely the smiles ahead mix (although i have to say that has to be one of the worst producer names i’ve come across!) - really really nice indeed… interesting take on that broken thing! i’m also into your new tracks - top vox indeed…"
(Spacey/Rude Movements)

"I know i haven’t been giving specific feedback on the new material i heard since "wanderlust", but now i think i did good, cause the experience i just had listening to "echoes" was beyond everything i hoped for, and now i feel i can express everything i have been thinking about listening to your music and the reworks since wanderlust remix ep volume one… your choice of tracklisting enhances the quality of each individual piece, creating a very nice atmosphere troughout this whole "journey" and a feeling as if every song has been made with this album as purpose, what brings yet another credit to you for having chosen the right people to remix your music. i speak of songs, even if most of the tracks are remixes, ’cause i really consider them as songs… great harmonies and melodies, verses and choruses, intelligent instrumentations and above all, a sense of musical esthetism that perfectly sticks to the original sandboy personality. even the gerd 4 lux remix of bsb, where i first had second thoughts when listening to it on maxi, melts very well in the whole picture. like i said, every piece gets a considerable extra value. i like to be thrown into the soundscapes of wanderlust at the beginning of the album with the beautiful first track and along the evolution of that same track and the following ones, experiencing something fresh and new, then being thrown back into wanderlust with the last track (that also has a great, smooth and relaxing ending). it’s a circle being completed… very nice. special love for "call out", "common cause" and your remix of gerd’s "so real". the first one did not only put me immediatly in the right mood, but also moved me in every possible way, from harmonical changes to vocal lines and especially the very well mixed drums. one for always. the second one… what can i say? it has kalimba on it! one of my favorite instruments, i was really excited to hear it when phil told me you bought one and used it on the track. great atmosphere and nice to have leroy schlimm on guitars. "so real" has got that feel i adore and always look for. the intro is great, especially the prophet5 line. the overall sound creates a nice bed for vanessa freeman’s voice to lay into. i like the rhythm change very much, it’s exactly what the song needs for the trumpet solo. great work.
i haven’t checked yet, but could it be that leroy schlimm’s remix of "les éclairs" has been cut shorter than on the remix ep? anyway, i felt it was more compact and more to the point than on the ep. i remember having the feeling it was strectched a bit too long originally, but totally forgot about that on the album… well done! and i get gooseflesh every time i hear that fantastic synth coming up… about butti 49’s re-fusion of "viver": …another piece that puts a smile on people’s face. the package is neat and it’s nice to have a booklet with the liner notes and the touching text on the back. it’s better than on wanderlust… it is a great album, i am really glad that this concept has seen daylight and i wish very hard that it will have the succes it deserves.
(David Alexander/Smiles Ahead)

"… gefällt mir super gut."
(Michael Kienzler/Couchsurfer)

"… geht gut ab!"
(Jan Siegmund/Department Deluxe)

go to top   sandboy - "common cause" - "call out"
"Just wanna thanks u for this formidable cdr u send to me. U know I love Clara Hill… the restless time remix by Recloose on Sonar Kollektiv is great too. Randolph Matthews collaboration is very nice too, I usually prefer women voices… but it’s very soulful and I played it in a club last week and people loved it. Can’t wait 4 the Echoes album…"
Nicolas Gry / DJ Duke

"…the most beautiful release on Hinterland so far. The new 12" is so wonderful, Randolph sounds amazing and the production is absolute class!!"
Simon Skolfield / Break Reform / Abstract Blue

"…this is a sweet 12've!! Great vocals from both singers. I really enjoyed it!"
Erik van Beek / mfp collective

"Call out: What a nice vocals!!! This song has a GREAT potential to become a hit. I love it. Top noch!!! Common cause: Nice, well produced, sweet... a perfect way to spend the last days of the Summer, for sure. …superb CD."
Javi / Club Expansions

"Received you new ep… been getting lots of plays… in and out and about… hey must be getting cold up there again… because the more you stay indoors… the more you create beatiful music…"
Trevor Parkee

"Thanks for sending over the excellent new Sandboy. As always you know how to create yet more classic tracks and Randolph and Clara sound amazing. Perfect for the summer :-)"
(Simon Harrison/basic soul)

"Thanks for your recent production, you’re putting out some quality music of late mate. 'Common Cause' got great feedback over the weekend. We'll feature on the radio show and expect to see some chart action here soon! Fabulous stuff!"
(Paul Gamblin)

"The tracks are amazing!!!"
(DJ Nova)

Vor allem 'Call Out' gefällt mir extrem gut.
(Ralf Gum/GOGO Music)

"Simply divine music. Sandboy and Hinterland once again surpass excellence, distinguished nujazz nusoul"
(Alan Brown, Soul Seduction)

"I absolutely love CALL OUT!!! Love the music, the arrangement AND the voice of course! Although CALL OUT is my fave, I also like Common Cause… I think it’s one of Clara’s best vocal performances as yet! "
(Gerd/4Lux)

"Tobias Meggle under his alias of SANDBOY drops two spring / summers sweeteners via the Hinterland label. The drops "Call Out" featuring Randolph Matthews and "Common Cause" featuring Clara Hill (from the Jazzanova & Sonar Kollektiv camp). Both are pure magic and goes to prove that Tobias has the touch and is pulling out more than just rabbits from his hat. Respect!"
(Paul Gamblin/Black & Blue Radio Show)

go to top   sandboy - "wanderlust remix EP vol. 2"
"Steadfast and solid, another utterly dependable selection of mixes from one of the true underground sonic identifications that is Hinterland records. All mixes fit like a Recaro ergonomic bucketseat in a F14 Tomcat. Electronic organic, organic electronic, its all the same, its all music, and it's all good. Nice to see the up and coming production crews paying respect to the original compositions and songs. Nothing worse then nucrews adding twenty tablespoons of sugar to a single cup of your favourite musical beverage. Yeap, remixed with love and a loyality to the sound of Sandboy and Hinterland records and totally without taking the glory themselves. Remember guys "you are only the remixer" ;) Respect to Season, Smiles Ahead and Leroy Schlimm for remembering this and paying homage and respectful deference to the art of remixing. A great all round selection of mixes for some great all round songs, excellent 12". Personal rating: 9/10"
(Alan Brown, Cukipapa, Soul Seduction)

"Excellent set of remixes and hopefully you've noticed it high in my chart, on this weeks show and on my next nu-world mix which will be online later this week. Thanks again and keep the excellent music coming"
(Simon Harrison, basic soul)

"what a great letter/packaging. As for the reaction yeah, number one is my fave. Also classy Season rmx too. Well done."
(volcov, neroli)

"Both teasing fans in anticipation of his forthcoming album echoes and giving fans of Wanderlust new mixes to drool over, Sandboy is back with another remix EP full of solid mixes. Perhaps one of the most crisp production sets I’ve ever heard, these remixes are SO clean that it’s amazing they retain the soul of the originals. The packaging on this promo CD alone is a major statement of the level of quality that hinterland is all about. I’d say the thing that separates these remixes from the various remix EPs out there is the sheer fact that every track sounds as if it was/could be played by a live band. A very rare trait in a lot of so-called 'nu-jazz' these days. The only mix that didn’t really blow me away was the Season remix of 'Pomegranate' and that’s no knock at Season. The original piece is just so beautiful on it’s own that I don’t even think I’d have the guts to touch it as a remixer."
(Adam Kurzawa, Giant Step)

"Love the nu material… electro, brazilian broken beat that really rolls along ('lua nua')… must win design award for best CD promotion presentation too, beautiful packaging… will showcase them on the programme…"
(Trevor Parkee, Departure Lounge)

"One of the best tracks (smiles ahead rmx) I've been sent in a long time, wonderful."
Jmix (Citrona, Lime Sorbet & International Freeridin Radioshows)

"… really like the 'Smiles Ahead Threes Tees Mix' …he got that magic touch! Good luck with this one!"
(Mad Mats/Raw Fusion/Jugglin’ Records)

"Well, I’ve been rockin’ the shit out of Lua Nua (HOT HOT HOT) track… I wish I had it on vinyl… we prefer vinyl, cause I play out at various NYC clubs… but CD is good for the radio show! Thanks for the beautiful envelope, CD, etc. … you’re very good at design and presentation… A++" (Ernesto Vigo)

"Very groovy remix! I was expecting the bass dropped earlier but this is the surprising Smiles Ahead effect… Once it is coming, it never stops! Very promising…"
(Ali Tillett/Warm Nights & Agency)

"'Lua Nua' - (Smiles ahead remix) is in my top 10."
(Paul Gamblin)

"Impressive! The remix (smiles ahead rmx) is kicking the original version… More groovy, less keys, a deep bassline and a solid drum programming! Bien joué!"
(Irfane/Outlines, Sonar Kollektiv)

"I like it a lot. esp. the leroy schlimm rmxsm (both) they are my favorites… i will surly play it on my radio shows."
(Samy Birnbach/DJ Morpheus)

"Great!!! I like all the mixes, pushed me in a good mood. Great package !!! One track will be in line as track of the month (april). 'les eclairs' (leroy schlimm remix) seems that came out from a teaser ep of the 'secret love' compilation of sonar kollektiv… 'pomegranate' (season remix) is waiting to played back 2 back from domu mix of break reform’s 'waiting', the warmest remix of 2005 until now/u can’t hear it u just can feel it!!! 'lua nua' (smiles ahead three tees remix) is an uplifting emotional broken beat attack, it rocks … 'lua nua' (leroy schlimm remix) is an electro afro folk surpice, words are not enough!!!
(DJ Nova/Rodon FM95)

"Hinterland delivers a varied package of reworks on Sandboy’s original material and never disappoints. Some of the names may not be familiar to common people but that is for me even a bigger argument to play it which I’ll do on my 'Cooltronica' radio show. I particularly like the ambients of this EP. Looking forward to the next one." Rating: 8/10, Favourite track: Season’s remix"
(Rui Torrinha, Groovement/R.U.M. [97.5 FM])

"I DEFINITELY LOVE IT, especially A1 'Lua Nua' remixed by Smiles Ahead and 'les éclairs' by Leroy Schlimm. I will chart these."
(DJ Duke)

"Thanks for the cd, 1 - leroy schlimm 'not that much into the singing, but definitely into the guitar playing… love this kind of post-rock atmosphere… brilliant guitarist !!"
(bruno/patchworks)

"First of all, love the ingenious packaging… Nice… The music then, really good, use it most of the time in my sets at the moment…"
(Manu Boubli, Mind/Comet)

"Great remixes of all 3 tracks. The Meggle camp excells once again… As normall.. I’ve had a lot of use from it & often play 3 of the 4 tracks when i’m dj’ing.. Pomegranate is a great tune to play early on in a set. Just watch everybodys heads nod… . It just gets people in the right mood…Also…The vocals!!!!!! It just makes you wanna listen to it, Real hard. I guess that’s what you ultimately want from making your music. If i’ve had enough of watching peoples heads nodding…… I play either of the Lua Nua tracks… That normally gets um up !!"
(Gary Johnson)

"This bunch of remixes has a really high standard. All of them sound like if they had been produced by long time career famous artists!!! so its a quite nice surprise to find out people like Philarmonix and David Alexander showing such a great talent!!! I have liked all the very professional production skills shown in here and the warm atmospheres created. As previously mentioned, my favourite cut is Lua Nua -Leroy Schlimm rmx- due to that powerful drum pattern and uplifting tempo. Season’s remix of Pomegranate is also a very remarkable one, and I could easily drop it in my radio shows or at a warm up slot in a club session. The other two tracks do not quite fit into the sounds I tend to play as they are a bit too electronic for my taste. In my personal opinion, vocals are not impressive either and do not stand out from hundreds of similar tracks around… Not for me, sorry. I will try to keep supporting this release from my show!!! keep tuned!!"
(Javi/Club Expansions)

"I am really enjoying it. Lua Lua especially is the one for me. Sweet rhodes, sweet vocals and rough beats - what else do you need?! Props to Phil!"
(Ennio Styles)

(Ralf Gum/GOGO Music)

"Danke fuer noch eine portion SANDBOY! Wird gespielt und supported @ B92, wie immer. 'Lua Nua' Smiles Ahead Three Tees Mix ist mein Favorit."
(Nebojsa/Jazzmate)

1A-Homelistening."
(mpq/De:Bug/Groove/Level 47)

(Makossa/FM4)

"Finde alle Remixe sehr gelungen."
(Peter Kruder)

go to top   sandboy - "wanderlust remix EP"
Simple beauties!"
(De:Bug)

go to top   sandboy - "wanderlust"
"The album is a fantastic twist on nu-jazz with subtle electronics, but 'Pomegranate' actually moved me and kind of elevated itself off of the album for me.  A total downtempo, rainy-day headphone track, it features the beautiful and talented Nanar from Break Reform on vocals."
(Adam Kurzawa/Giant Step)

"This is no instant material. There are no fillers on this one. These are true songs. A wonderful labour of love."
(Lensco/Beyondjazz)

"Beautiful. Lovely music and production with great vocals - always a good combination!"
(Naveed Akhtar, Sing Sing Music)

"Sandboy, aka Tobias Meggle, clearly has a deep desire to travel. Whether he physically satisfies this "Wanderlust" or not isn’t clear, but thisalbum, his debut since leaving Compost’s Beanfield, clearly goes some way to fulfil this need. Many of the beautiful songs on this LP take the listener to far flung places, whether it be the golden shores of Brazil (on 'Viver' and 'bsb') or the rivers of Bangkok (on 'Motion Capture'). Meggle’s production, all achieved in his isolated farmhouse in the German Alps features Break Reform’s songstress Nanar Vorperian features on two tracks, while 'The Hike' enlists the evocative spoken word of Marishka Phillips. 'Wanderlust' is a sumptous and uplifting work, and is obviously a very personal album for Meggle. What’s more, after a few listens, it’ll feel like a very personal album for you too. Top notch."
(SNC)

"Lovely album. Keep them coming!!"
(LTJ Bukem/Good Looking)

"The whole album is really nice. So into the 'viver' track though. Playlisted and charted. Gets my full support."
(Kev Beadle/Solar Radio/Sosho/Mind fluid)

"As one third of Beanfield for their first two albums, producer Tobias Meggle has learnt his trade well. Here he steps out on his own with his solo, yet very collaborative, Sandboy project, on his own Hinterland label. Gathering a selection of ten musicians and seven vocalists to his rural studio outside Munich, Meggle has fashioned a delicate and musical album of songs with a major Brazilian influence. 'Wanderlust' stands up well to previous comparisons of Meggle’s singles to 4 Hero, Ursula Rucker, and Cinematic Orchestra, with a similar wide screen take on jazz and soul. A gentle treasure of an album.
(DJ magazine)

"Got the album yesterday… it’s great! Lovely organic feel to the music."
(Richard E, Solar Apple Quarktette/Further Out Recordings)

"Recieved your Sandboy cd, yeah really excellent job man! enjoyed it a lot, really love 'bsb'!"
(volcov/neroli production/archive)

"I really love the cd especially 'written in the leaves' (the soulfultrack), 'pepe' and still 'viver'!! Great first full release!!"
(Erik van Beek/MFP Collective/Flyin' High Records)

"It’s a great album, I have been listening to it non stop for two weeks now. Really solid from start to finish, excellent stuff."
(Alan Brown/Soul Seduction/Cuki)

"The personnel on this album encompass a wide variety of musicians and vocalists, who line up alongside the producer, a former member of Compost’s Beanfield. An upshot of the assorted workforce is a patchy album, with flashes of brilliance alongside equal moments of dreariness. "Viver" gives life from its serene strings, strong chords, pattering percussion and twinkling keys. The wonderful Nanar Vorperian from Break Reform guests on "Written In Leaves", where her devoted vocals sit alongside heavy handed keys and a cool liquid bass. "Lua Nua" is a nice enough final cut, with vivid keys, thinking percussion and wonderful flugal horn. At least worth a listen…"
( )

"This sound very classy and this album has very special authentic feelings too."
(Tatsuo Sunaga)

"I really love the album! My favourite is the one with the singer from Break Reform! And of course 'the hike'! I basically love all stuff on there…"
(Gerd/4lux)

"Thanks so much for the Promo CD. As expected it’s a killer. Enjoyed every track, nice to listen to at home in the background, but also some good playing out pieces too. Rest assured they will be getting played at the JAZZROOMS."
(Gary Johnson)

"It truly is a wonderful piece of work."
(Paul Gamblin)

"… , just had a chance to check out the Sandboy CD at last and I love it. Very uplifting and soulful music. Some great vocalists and top musicians too."
(Jimpster/Freerange Records)

"Thanks for the great album Wanderlust! The Motion capture EP saved me from depression last spring and this album will do the same this year! Great work!"
(Simon Fagéus)

"It is simply fantastic… Amazing vocals and production value."
(Stephen Hernandez/The Underground Lounge/Touch-N-Go Productions)

"I received the CD - Thank you! It sounds really nice - nice work on the keys."
(Awanohara Hiro)

"I am so greatful for your cd, it is wonderful (my girlfriend is always listening it :-) CONGRATULATION! We really love it!"
(DJ Infragandhi)

"Former Beanfield member delivers an easy piano-driven deep house track with clicks and bleeps and trumpets in all the right places. A classy cut from Sandboy's rather tasty debut album 'Wanderlust'."
(Steve Kinsey/Vivacious)

Definitives hitpotential!"

"An amazing ep from a label which was new to all of us. 'the hike', which is our favorite track, sounds like a track for a new David Lynch movie with its mystical atmosphere. Beautiful sung by a new female singer called Marishka Phillips."
(DJ Pathless)

"First release from a very promising label. Sounding like the cinematic orchestra meets Jill Scott …mmmmmm."
(Dom Servini)

"One of our favourite records from last year. Through Germany, the beautiful voice of Marishka Phillips comes to us! The new Ursula Rucker."
(Gerd and DJ Pathless)

"Compliments for the stuff… very well produced and rich!"
(volcov/neroli production/archive)

"That track 'viver' is amazing to say the least. Nice Ferreira wowwwww!!! What a voice!!! Take nothing away from the rest of the 12, it’s a killer!!!!!"
(Gary Johnson)

" 'the hike' has shades of Ursula Rucker in Marishka Phillip’s vocals, and acertain Cinematic Orchestra or 4hero quality about it. Haunting piano, tight percussion and a heavy acoustic bass sound. Look out for great things from this outfit!"
